The FIFA Club World Cup is a prestigious tournament where continental champions from across the football world battle for the ultimate global title. The tournament has recently received a new look, but prior to the revamp, it was an annual competition that was usually held every December and involved just seven teams worldwide.
For instance, the Champions League winners (a European club competition) would take on continental counterparts from Asia, South America, Africa, Oceania, and North America.
In December of 2024, FIFA announced a new look to the competition. A total of 32 teams will now take part in the competition every four years, just like the FIFA World Cup tournament.

From the 32 teams playing in the tournament, Europe will be allocated 12 slots, and the clubs are chosen based on their Champions League performances over four seasons from 2020/2021 up to the recent season.
The 2025 competition will include Champions League winners from the last three seasons (Chelsea, Manchester City, and Real Madrid) and the best-performing sides in the tournament in the same period, with clubs like Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain joining through the ranking route.
Other teams from the six continental federations will also join the competition to make up the 32 participating teams. Lionel Messi's MLS side, Inter Miami, will also be joining the competition courtesy of their 2024 MLS Supporters' Shield campaign win.

It will kick off with a game featuring MLS' Inter Miami and the Egyptian side Al Ahly at the Miami Hard Rock Stadium.
